When not fighting(afk, cities, etc), pet options?

If tell your pet to stay in one place and then leave walk a little ways away it will dismiss itself, and you can resummon it with ‘Call Pet’. That’s what I usually do, as I don’t want to have to keep feeding it while I wander around town.-Convict 24601

Having found my first pet(level 10), his loyalty is still low but growing. I understand feeding him(keeping him happy) and keeping him in battle increases his loyalty. But being so new to the game, I still have a lot of wandering around to do, people to speak with(friends and npcs), and I’m just now getting into looking at the auction houses. What is the best way to my pet so I can go do some non-combat related exploration? Should I pony up the money and buy a stable space and put him in there while I spend time at the auction house? Should I him via the pet menu? What are the of versus using a stable during downtime?
I’ve read going afk with a pet isn’t a great choice loyalty-wise, so I am looking for the best alternative for playing the game at my own pace at times, not having to worry about kitty getting ticked off every 10 minutes, or having to shell out money for his constant hunger. At this early point in the game, I don’t want to even log in to play, knowing that my pet will be there waiting for his next meal(money is tough to come by at this early stage).
Thanks for your time, and patience, with this newb old is new again
